Bhubaneswar: The number of seats in higher secondary schools in Odisha has been increased by 54,900 this year and admission to Plus II streams will begin from August 12, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash informed on Tuesday.
He said the SAMS portal (https://samsodisha.gov.in ) will remain open from August 12 to facilitate online admission.
He further said that there will be no hike in the admission fee for any self-financing courses and those introduced by the School and Mass Education Department this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On increasing the seats in view of the higher pass percentage of students in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Examination-2021, the minister said that the department had received applications from several Junior colleges and Higher Secondary schools for adding 72,000 more seats to the Plus II streams.
“There were applications for 40,000 additional seats in Arts stream and 38,000 has been allowed. For Science, 13,000 additional seats have been added and 3900 for Commerce,” he said.
The results of Arts and Vocational Education is likely to be declared by the end of this week, he added.
