Kendrapada: Police have arrested 6 persons in connection with kidnap and murder of gangster Bibhu Prasad Sahoo in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
Speaking to media persons Monday, Kendrapada SP Sandeep Sampat Madkar said the six persons had admitted to have kidnapped Bibhu from Bhagabanpur village in Marshaghai area of the district on May 31. Later, they killed him by severely beating him near an old brick kiln on the outskirts of Mangalpur village under Mahakalapada police station.
They disposed of the body by setting it on fire in a cashew jungle at Rathapada under Tomka police limits of Jajpur district to destroy the evidence on June 1.
The body, charred beyond recognition, was identified by Bibhu’s wife Soudamini from his prosthetic left eye. She had lodged an FIR at Marshaghai police station the day he was kidnapped.
The police have also seized 2 cars, 3 bikes, 6 mobile phones and two wooden spade handles used in the crime. Twelve others involved in the crime are still absconding. The police have launched a manhunt to trace them, the SP said.
