Bhawanipatna: At least six persons were injured after a house at Bimala village under Jayapatna block of Odisha’s Kalahandi district collapsed following incessant rain on Wednesday.

According to sources, the injured included five children who were playing near the house when it collapsed on them.

The injured were immediately taken to a hospital at Jayapatna for treatment. One injured child was later shifted to Bhawanipatna Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

In neighbouring Rayagada district, an approach road to a bridge over Nagabali River collapsed near a Shiva Temple at Kalyansinghpur following heavy downpour. The road collapse led to disruption of communication through the bridge.

Rayagada district was reported to have recorded 447 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours, throwing normal life out of gear.

Most of the major rivers in the district including Bansadhara, Nagabali, Kalyani, and Jhanjabati are in spate keeping the district administration on the toes.
