Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday busted a bike-lifters’ racket with the arrest of six members, including the gang leader Krishna Kandi, in Odisha capital.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Sanjeeb Panda informed that 31 two-wheelers and five master keys were recovered from them. “The kingpin of this racket Krishna was arrested by Lingaraj police in August 2023, while another accused Dilu Sahu was arrested earlier in an NDPS case by Khandagiri police. They regrouped again after being released on bail about 4 months ago and started lifting bikes from across the city,” he told a presser.
The gang used to steal two-wheelers from various crowded areas, offices, schools, courts, markets and malls in the city.
“The accused lifted two-wheelers using master keys and sold them at throwaway rates. The gang was busted after the police tracked CCTV footage of various places from where these were lifted,” Panda added.
Badagada police have registered a case in this connection and forwarded the accused to the court.
