Surat: A six-storeyed building collapsed here on Saturday afternoon, leading to chaos and panic.

Several people are feared trapped under the massive debris, reported ANI.

Police, Fire department, NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed, and are still continuing rescue operations as they look for survivors.

The building – initially reported to be with four floors — had 30 flats over six floors. Fortunately, very few flats were occupied.

According to Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot, one woman has been rescued.

“Today around 3 pm, a six-storeyed building collapsed in the Sachin area. Many people who were living in that building got trapped inside. Police and fire brigade reached the spot immediately. A woman was successfully rescued from under the debris. Among the 30 flats inside the building, 4-5 falts were occupied and rest were empty,” Gehlot said.

At least half a dozen people are trapped under the debris.

The building, in the Sachin GIDC area, was built in 2017 and in a dilapidated state.
