67% Of COVID Toll In Odisha During Second Wave; 3763 Deaths Till July 28 This Year

Bhubaneswar: Odisha had seen 1,871 deaths due to COVID-19 during the first wave in 2020 and the toll mounted to 3,763 between January and July 28 this year, according to a reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

The state government has so far confirmed 5834 deaths due to the deadly disease. With 65 deaths being reported on July 29 and 66 on July 30, the total fatalities during the second wave have mounted to 3894. 

Notably, 67 per cent of these deaths have been added to the total count during the second wave of the pandemic with more than 30 per cent in the last one month 

The fatalities had swelled to 1,272 in June from 660 in May. The state has been reporting over 60 since July 9 with the highest of 69 on July 21.

The daily toll is unlikely to drop anytime soon with over 300 deaths yet to be audited.

On June 29, Director of Medical Education and Training CBK Mohanty had informed the audit of the remaining COVID deaths will be complete within the next 10-15 days.
