Cuttack: Seven persons, including a 22-year-old girl, have been arrested in connection the alleged death by suicide of a Plus III student at Mahanga in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Those arrested are Susant Nayak of Basudevpur, Abhijit Samal, Satyjit Prusty of Banapur, Manas Ranjan Sahu of Meripur, Mahesh Prasad Bal, Digbijay Sahu of Koliatha within Mahanga police limits and Prajnaparamita Mishra of Gadamadhupur within Jenapur police limits in Jajpur.
The 21-year-old allegedly committed suicide, fearing public humiliation, after one of her female friends clandestinely clicked her obscene photos and shared those with her male friends.
Sources said that Prajnaparamita, the main accused, was visiting the deceased when some guests had arrived there with a marriage proposal. While helping her to wear the saree, she took some pictures of her and later shared those with her male friends, who then started blackmailing the victim and even forced her to enter into physical relationship with them.
The girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house on July 8 morning.
The deceased’s father Manoj Kumar Panda lodged a complaint with police after they checked her mobile phone and found her chats with Susant Nayak and Manas Sahu over her obscene photos.
