Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over north Andaman Sea and its neighbourhood around October 18, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here said on Saturday.
The system would move west-northwestwards towards westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal and intensify into a low-pressure area around October 20, it added.
This will be the seventh low pressure in the Bay of Bengal this monsoon season.
Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre scientist Umashankar Das said that there is a moderate probability for the low pressure to move in west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal between October 20 and 26.
Under its influence, the state is likely to experience “fairly widespread rainfall” activity next week between October 21 and 27, IMD in its extended range forecast said, adding that there would be only ‘isolated to scattered rain or thunderstorm activity’ in the week from October 14 to 20.
A clearer forecast on the possibility of widespread rainfall activity and on the possible system would emerge in the subsequent days, Dash added.
Meanwhile, the MeT office has issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur till Sunday morning.
