Balangir: Nine migrant workers were rescued by the police at Turekela in Odisha’s Balangir district on Saturday while being trafficked to Hyderabad.
According to sources, a team from Turekela police station rescued the nine workers from the railway station while they were being trafficked to Hyderabad. A suspected middleman has been detained in this connection.
The rescued migrant workers, who hailed from different villages under Turekela block, were lured with promises of employment.
Acting on a tip-off, the police personnel intercepted the traffickers at Turekela railway station and rescued the workers.
Preliminary investigation showed that the workers were being taken to Hyderabad by the middleman, police said, adding that the middleman has been detained. He is being interrogated to ascertain the trafficking network.
