Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 toll in Odisha touched 8,503 on Wednesday with two more deaths confirmed in the last 24 hours.
According to the Health Department, the deaths were reported from Bhubaneswar and Dhenkanal.
A 98-year-old man from Bhubaneswar, who was also suffering from hypertension, died of COVID. Another 57-year-old man from Dhenkanal district, who was also suffering from diabetes mellitus, was the second victim.
Odisha has reported 6,528 COVID deaths during the second wave against 1,876 in the first wave last year.
There were 80 casualties in the state in November, 134 casualties in October and 346 in September. Similarly, 2,056 fatalities were registered in August, while July saw 1,903 deaths, June 1,272 and May 737, said sources in the Health Department.
The second wave of the pandemic has claimed the lives of 48 children and adolescents in Odisha. As many as 13 of these deaths were reported between August 10 and 31.
