Sundargarh: A man was murdered over suspicion of practising sorcery at a village near Bonai in Sundargarh district on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Kalia Dehury, a villager from Patamunda under Mahulpada police limits.
Police have detained one Tanguru Giri from the same village for his alleged involvement in the murder.
According to sources, Tanguru had an altercation with Kalia on Sunday evening. Following this, he allegedly struck Kalia’s head with an axe and killed him on the spot. He also set Kalia’s house on fire.
On being informed, police reached the spot and detained Tanguru for interrogation.
As per primary investigation, police suspect that past enmity and sorcery may be the reasons behind the murder.
Further investigation into the matter is on.
