Sundargarh: Odisha Police on Tuesday rescued a schoolteacher, who was allegedly abducted by miscreants, from a forested area on Kinjirkela-Kulaba road and detained four persons for questioning.
The victim has been identified as Sarbeswar Das, headmaster of Brahmanmara High School within Kinjirkela police limits of Sundargarh district.
According to sources, the accused in an SUV intercepted Sarbeswar while returning to his rented accommodation at Balisankara from the school on his motorcycle. They then shoved him into the vehicle and sped away. They also made a ransom call to his wife from his phone and demanded Rs 1 lakh for his release.
His wife paid them Rs 50,000 in digital mode, which helped the police, whom she had already informed about the kidnapping, to track down the miscreants. Two guns and the vehicle bearing Chhattisgarh registration number have also been seized from the spot.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
