Phulbani: Family members of young doctor Amlan Kumar Bhoi, who has reportedly been abducted in Odisha’s Malkangiri, on Monday appealed to the authorities to take quick steps to rescue him.

His family members met the collector and superintendent of police (SP) of Kandhamal district and urged them to take necessary staps to ensure a safe rescue of Amlan.

Sources said Amlan’s father Abani Kumar Bhoi, maternal uncle and some relatives met the senior officials. They were also accompanied by some local residents.

The doctor, who is posted in Malkangiri, hails from Kandhamal district. He is yet to be traced.
Amlan’s father and uncle told media that they have urged the collector and SP to take steps for safe rescue of the doctor. “Through them, we also appealed to the collector of Malkangiri district to do everything for Amlan’s safe rescue,” they said.

It may be noted here that the young doctor was suspected to have been abducted by Maoists on June 1. Posted in Kalimela community health centre (CHC), he was allegedly abducted from his government quarters.

Police have reportedly seized a poster put up by the outlawed CPI (Maoist) on the wall of Amlan’s quarters on the premises of Kalimela CHC. The doctor’s mobile phone and motorcycle have been recovered from his residence.

Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Malkangiri Sachin Patel denied any role of Maoists in Amlan’s disappearance and said some miscreants might have abducted the doctor.

Police are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area. The investigation is underway and efforts are on to trace the doctor, he said.

A native of Kandhamal district, Amlan was posted as a doctor in Kalimela CHC in January this year.
