Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced social security plan for newspaper hawkers of Odisha.
As per this yojana, hawkers registered under Odisha Unorganised Social Security Board will be included in the plan.
The hawkers will be given Rs 2 lakh ex gratia in case of death due to accident and Rs 1 lakh for death due to natural causes. For permanent disability Rs 1.5 lakh financial help will be provided and for loss of both limbs Rs 80,000 will be provided and Rs 40,000 financial help for loss of one limb.
As the hawkers faced financial crisis during COVID when people stopped subscribing to newspapers fearing transmission of the virus, the registered newspaper hawkers will be provided with Rs 3,000 financial aid in two instalments from the CM’s Relief Fund.
Moreover, as they face problem at work, work sheds will be provided in sub-division and district level.
The Information and Public Relations Department will prepare a database to scrutinise the hawkers and issue ID cards, the Chief Minister said.
