Pune: When the 17-year-old son of a prominent Pune builder was produced before Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on May 19 after the Porsche he was driving under the influence of alcohol ran over two bike-borne IT professionals, his grandfather stood surety for his bail and assured the court that the minor will mend his ways.
It has now emerged that the grandfather, who started the family’s real estate business, has links with the underworld and was booked by Pune police for contacting Chhota Rajan to kill Shiv Sena corporator Ajay Bhosale.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which probed the case dating back to 2008, issued a chargesheet in which the boy’s grandfather was named.
Pune Crime Branch has questioned the teenager’s grandfather in connection with the FIR registered in the Porsche mishap in which the boy’s father has also been arrested.
India Today quoted a Pune Police official as saying that an order is awaited on the 17-year-old boy to be tried as an adult in the case.
His bail, granted within 14 hours of the accident on Sunday, was cancelled on Wednesday and the boy has been sent to a child observation centre for 15 days.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said a review application has been filed before the Juvenile Justice Board to allow the boy to be tried as an adult.
