Bhubaneswar: National Tribal Craft Mela or Adivasi Mela 2022 will be held at Idco Exhibition Ground in Odisha capital from April 23-May 2. It will remain open to the public from 3.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
The fair, which is organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in association with the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI), Odisha, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at 6 pm on Saturday.
The objective of the Mela is to preserve, promote and popularise traditional tribal art and craft and help the artisans to find better opportunities to develop their skills through cross-cultural interactions for commercial viability of their products.
More than 200 artisans from 18 states will be participating in this 10-day-long event and display their exquisite tribal art and craft, including textiles, paintings, bamboo, wood, lac and metal crafts and terracotta and jute items.
There will be live demonstrations of more than 12 crafts, official sources said.
The fair will have 100 stalls, showcasing agricultural and minor forest produce while 56 tribal dance troupes will take part in the cultural programmes.
