After 2 Days Of Subdued Rain, Yellow Warning For Heavy Downpour In Odisha From Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Following deviation of monsoon trough to the north of its normal position, there has been a decrease in intensity of rain across Odisha for past two-three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.

“The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Bikaner, the centre of Low Pressure Area over northeast Rajasthan & neighbourhood, Lucknow, Patna, Balurghat and thence eastwards to Manipur,” it said.

According to the midday bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely at many places in South Interior Odisha, Gajapati, Ganjam and at a few places in the remaining districts of the state till 8.30 am on Tuesday. Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

The Met office further said that some places in the state may witness heavy rain again from July 11, when yellow warning has been issued for Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts. There is also a forecast for thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Keonjhar. Light to moderate rain is likely to continue at several places in southern districts of the state and a few places in North Odisha.

On July 12, heavy rainfall may lash one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts with light to moderate showers in South and North Odisha.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Bargarh and Jharsuguda during the subsequent 24 hours (July 13). Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places in South Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal and at a few places in rest districts of the state.

On July 14, there is a heavy rainfall warning for one or two places in in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts with light to moderate showers in remaining parts of the state.

Notably, Odisha has recoded 32.2% rainfall deficit between June 1 and July 10.
