Paradip: A bulk carrier, sailing under the Egyptian flagship, has been ‘arrested’ at the Paradip Port in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district following an order of the Orissa High Court over a monetary dispute.
As per sources, the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has detained the ship in the presence of local police on the High Court’s directive.
The seizure of this vessel, which arrived from Bangladesh, was made close on the heels of the detention of a Chinese ship at Paradip. The HC has ordered the vessel’s arrest until further direction.
As per information, the detention was the outcome of a dispute between a German company and the owner of the ship over the delivery of low-sulphur marine gas oil.
The Egyptian vessel, ‘MV Wadi Albostan,’ reportedly reached Paradip on August 6. It is had reportedly sailed from Bangladesh and was proceeding to China, carrying 55,000 metric tons of iron ore.
However, a German company has claimed approximately Rs 4 crore from the ship’s owner and approached the Orissa High Court. The HC has ordered the detention of the bulk carrier and designated the Kujang sub-judge as Marshal to carry out the arrest warrant.
The Kujang sub-judge, in the role of Marshal, together with local and Paradip marine police, apprehended the vessel, barring its departure from Paradip Port.
