Cuttack: A week after banning DJ music in the immersion procession of Durga Puja in Cuttack city, the authorities have also imposed restriction on the use of laser light and fire gun during the ceremony this year.

Sources said the decision to ban the use of laser light and fire gun during the immersion procession was taken at the preparatory meeting of the Cuttack Mahanagar Purbanchala Shanti Committee (peace committee) in the city.

The meeting was attended among others by Cuttack district Collector, senior police officials, city Mayor, local MLA and members.

The fresh move comes a week after the authorities put a blanket ban on DJ music during the immersion ceremony of Durga Puja in the millennium city this year.

DJ music will not be allowed during the immersion ceremony in the millennium city scheduled to be held on October 14. Only six boxes will be allowed within 65 decibel of sound during the ceremony.

Cultural programmes during the Durga Puja festival are proposed to be allowed till midnight.

A senior police official said that all puja committees have promised during the meeting that they will not play DJ music during the immersion ceremony. They have also promised that there will be no use of liquor during the festival.

Stating that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja, he said police is hopeful of getting cooperation from all the puja committees.
