Police have nabbed the accused, Ajit Swain, and filed a case.
The accused rode here on his bike from Delanga in Puri district on Wednesday. In Old Town here, he appeared for an interview for a delivery agent in an e-commerce firm.
Police said that after that Swain, armed with a knife and a toy gun, tried to rob a grocery store in Shree Vihar locality in Chandrasekharpur. The store belongs to Rama Chandra Sahoo.
When Swain reached the grocery store at 4.30 pm, his 12-year-old son was at the shop. He raised alarm following which Sahoo reached the shop.
Demanding Rs 20,000, Swain attacked Sahoo with the knife. As people gathered at the shop, he showed them the toy gun. But he was thrashed and handed over to police.
Swain told the police that he quit his job at a private company 15 days ago. He decided to rob the store as he was unable to repay the loan he had taken for the motorcycle.
