Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to launch ‘Mo College’ programme on the lines of ‘Mo School’ to promote and facilitate volunteerism for the development of colleges across the state.

The ‘Mo School’ campaign launched in 2017 allowed former students to be a part of the change they want to see in their schools.

Under the proposed Mo College programme, steps will be taken for manifold development of colleges with the help of former students, Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo told the Assembly during a discussion on the adjournment motion.

As part of its continued effort for the development of higher education, the state government will set up six more model degree colleges in Balangir, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Koraput and Gajapati districts under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the Minister said.

At present, there are 52 government degree colleges and eight model degree colleges in the state.

The Minister informed the House that 426 of 526 vacant posts in colleges and universities are being filled up. “There was delay in the lecturer appointment as a case pertaining to it was sub judice in the Supreme Court. The decks have been cleared and the government is taking steps to fill up the vacant posts within a week,” he added.
