Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court has nominated ABS Naidu, a former district judge, to monitor the investigation in connection with the Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case.
This followed a request by the state government to nominate a sitting or retired Judge of the HC or a District and Sessions Judge to monitor the investigation into the ‘sensitive’ murder case.
This move is being seen as an attempt by the government to quell the opposition demand for the resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra, who allegedly shares close links with main accused Govind Sahu, ahead of the winter session of the Odisha assembly, starting December 1.
Alleging shoddy probe into the case due to alleged complicity of the minister, the Congress had earlier demanded an HC-monitored SIT probe and had mentioned that Mamita Mehere murder would be the core issue for the grand old party during the assembly session.
The BJP had also made it clear that Mamita Meher murder and the auster of Mishra will be the main issue for its MLAs on the floor of the House.
