Bhubaneswar: All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) on Wednesday strongly opposed any move to exclude Darwin’s Theory of Evolution from the school curriculum.
In a statement, AIDSO General Secretary Saurabh Ghosh, its Odisha State Council President Somnath Behera and Secretary Siddharth Rath said any move to remove Darwin’s theory from the Class X syllabus should be condemned.
They said if NCERT removes this part from school textbooks it would cause enormous harm to the students and affect their career in the long run.
For students wanting to study biology, it is absolutely necessary to know and understand Darwin’s theory, they said, adding that this doctrine provided an answer to all the confusion caused by religious belief systems.
Moreover, it is indispensable for building a scientific and rational worldview. Darwin’s painstaking efforts and his keen knowledge and observations helped him discover the theory of natural selection, they said, adding that these efforts provide students with an understanding of the process of science and the importance of logical thinking.
Every student should have a basic understanding of bio-evolution to develop a holistic understanding of the world.
It is a matter of deep concern that an independent body like NCERT is being used by the government for such nefarious purposes, they said in the statement.
AIDSO strongly opposes this move and and demands that NCERT withdraw this decision immediately. In addition, all the students, teachers, lecturers and education lovers of all levels are called to lead the conscious citizens to protect the entire country from such attacks
