In the evening, the AIIMS-Bhubaneswar issued a statement on it.
According to the statement, the septuagenarian was admitted to the hospital at 1 pm on April 4 with fever and severe respiratory difficulty.
He was immediately shifted to the isolation ward since he had symptoms of a suspected case of COVID-19 and treated for respiratory failure with oxygen and supporting therapy.
“His condition worsened and he was put on ventilator on April 6 but despite all medical care, he passed away,” it said.
It further said that his samples were taken on April 6 and found to be positive for COVID-19 infection during tests at AllMS-Bhubaneswar. It was subsequently sent to RMRC for re-confirmation and the result received on April 7 was also found to be positive.
