Bhubaneswar: After successfully running flights to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Indonesian, the low-cost carrier is now planning to start international flights to Colombo, Sri Lanka, Bangkok and Thailand from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.
According to State Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Air Asia has sought approval from the state government to start these flights.
Currently, Air India is the only other carrier operating direct international flights to Bangkok from here. Also the flight to Kuala Lumpur is currently subsidised by the Odisha government.
Sources said that the airport authorities are exploring connectivity options to Dubai and also Pune, a recent demand.
