Mumbai: The most-talked-about Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Jigra’ has hit the theatres today, October 11.
The Rajasthan High Court lifted the ban on the movie stating that the title does not violate Bhallaram Choudhary’s trademark rights.
A bench consisting of Justices Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Munnuri Laxman stated that the appellant is not trading in the name of ‘Jigra’.
“Moreover, the appellant is not trading in the name of ‘Jigra’, rather it is M/s. Dharma Production Private Limited. Thus, the goods and services rendered by Dharma Production Private Limited by naming a movie as ‘Jigra’ cannot be said to be an infringement of trademark laws,” stated the bench.
The court also stated that the petitioner can claim monetary compensation if any violation takes place.
The lower court had ordered a stay on the release of the film in Jodhpur following a petition filed by a Rajasthan teacher who claimed that he runs online classes by the name Jigra.
Directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions, Jigra stars Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina in lead roles.
