Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: To celebrate the International Women’s Day in a novel way, the Commissionerate Police along with some social groups organized all-woman bike and car rallies to spread awareness on women empowerment and road safety here on Sunday.
Scores of enthusiastic women participated in the rallies with a message to end violence against the fairer sex. The rallies were held from Janta Maidan to KIIT University and from Police Seva Bhavan to Jaydev Bhavan.
The Commissionerate Police tweeted, “The @cpbbsrctc team Traffic in collaboration with #sevaprayasfoundation, #WeTheRoadQueens and ISR had a Car/Bike #RideAgainstViolenceOnWomen with message #EachForEqual from #JanataMaidan to @KIITUniversity & from #PoliceSevaBhavan to #JaydevBhavan on #InternationalWomensDay.”
In hounour of the state’s women police, it had also made arrangements for a free health check-up camp for them and their families at Reserve Police ground. Around 39 women police were felicitated on the occasion.
At the same time, 37 cervical and breast cancer awareness camps were organized by the Odisha Police in association with the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for the women employees. The camp witnessed a turnout of nearly 5000 women police along with their families.
Besides rallies, conferences, camps, and felicitations and various programmes including dance, singing, painting and ramp walks were held at Biju Patnaik and Kharavela parks in Bhubaneswar. Odia film actors Archita Sahu, Sheetal and singers Barnali Hota and Neha graced the events.
