Bhubaneswar: The Cabinet on Friday approved the amendments to Odisha Civil Services Rules for appointment of an eligible family member of the deceased government servant, who dies while in service, in Group D post on compassionate grounds.

The government had proposed to frame a new set of rules – the Odisha Civil Service (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules 2020 – through the amendments.

As against 10 per cent of total Group C and Group D posts under the rehabilitation assistance scheme ( RAS), as was the practice earlier, it was proposed to fill up 50 per cent vacancies in Group D posts only to allow applicants maximum opportunity for appointment under the scheme.

The government took this decision after it came to its notice that many deserving applicants were not getting adequate opportunity for appointment under the RAS.

Two drinking water projects at an estimated cost of Rs 344 crore for Sundargarh and long-term linkage to provide raw materials to state-based end user industries through OMC Ltd, among nine proposals, were given the go ahead at the meeting of council of ministers chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Lok Seva Bhawan.

According to reports, the cabinet is believed to have approved the State Budget 2020-21 of around ₹1.50 lakh crore. The budget will be presented in Assembly on February 18.
