Amid ‘Adipurush’ Controversy, Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’ Returns To TV On This Date

Mumbai: At a time when ‘Adipurush’, based on the epic Ramayana, is facing a lot of flak, Ramanand Sagar’s popular late-1980s show ‘Ramayan’ is set to for a rerun on television.

Shemaroo TV announced that the mythological show will air from July 3 on the channel. With netizens and the public comparing ‘Adipurush’ with ‘Ramayan’, the free-to-air channel owned by Shemaroo Entertainment Media Network hopes to attract a large viewership for the TV show which ran successfully from January 1987 to July 1988.

“World famous mythological serial Ramayan is back for all the fans and our audience. Watch it from July 3, 7.30 pm, on your favourite channel Shemaroo TV,” the Instagram handle of Shemaroo TV shared along with a video from the TV show.

‘Adipurush’ — starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan as Lord Ram, Sita and Lord Hanuman, respectively — has been the talk of the town since its release on June 16.

Critics have questioned the film’s authenticity and representation of facts while some of the negative reviews pointed out shoddy VFX and dialogues.

Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in ‘Ramayan’, described ‘Adipurush’ as “Hollywood ki cartoon.”

Dipika Chikhlia essayed the role of Sita and Sunil Lahiri played Lakshman in the long-running TV show three-and-a-half decades ago.
