Bhubaneswar: Almost entire Odisha came under the grip of intense heatwave as 30 places recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Sunday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, mercury crossed 44 degree Celsius in 4 places in western Odisha with Balangir and Bargarh recording highest 44.5 degree Celsius, followed by Jharsuguda with 44.4 and Sonepur 44.3 degree.
Similarly, 6 other places in the region saw temperature zooming to 43 degree Celsius. Sambalpur recorded 43.6 degree Celsius, followed by Boudh with 43.5, Hirakud 43.1 and Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna and Titlagarh with 43 degree.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also experienced sudden rise in temperature with 42.6 and 41.6 degree Celsius respectively.
The IMD has forecast that there will be no large change in day temperature in Odisha during next 3 days. But there may be slight fall thereafter. Maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 4-6 degree Celsius at
a few places during next 3 days, it added.
Issuing an orange warning, the weather forecaster said heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the district of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Keonjhar.
In a good news, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Karnataka, most parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, some parts of Andhra Pradesh.
