Paradip: At least 15 persons fell ill following the leakage of ammonia gas from an ice factory inside a prawn processing factory at Paradipgarh in Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday afternoon.
Three of them, including a minor, are learnt to be in critical condition.
Sources said that the incident took place at about 11 am. Following the leakage, about 15 persons living nearby complained of suffocation while a young woman was seen vomiting.
Locals rushed to the area and got the critical trio, including an 8-year-old boy, admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Deputy director, Factories & Boilers, Chandrakant Dalai said that a team of technicians from Paradip Industrial Estate has been engaged in plugging the gas leak.
