New Delhi: Radical preacher and jailed MP Amritpal Singh and his associates pose a serious threat to the life of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as well as the law and order situation in the state.
Punjab Police made these claims in an affidavit submitted before Punjab and Haryana High Court.
They also submitted video clips, recorded outside Ajnala Police Station, in which Amritpal is heard saying Mann is functioning in a manner that would ensure he meets the same fate as former chief minister Beant Singh, The Times of India reported.
Beant was assassinated in a suicide bombing at the secretariat complex in Chandigarh on August 31, 1995.
“We warned CM Mann not to walk on the path of CM Beant Singh… but CM Mann is still proceeding on that path. Dilawar acted as a human bomb and blew up CM Beant Singh… CM Mann has ensured that several such Dilawars have taken birth out of this present crowd today,” Amritpal cane be heard saying in videos.
Punjab Police stated that such comments can mislead the youth and result in another crime.
Amritpal, the chief of pro-Khalistan ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit, is lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA).
He won the Khadoor Sahib seat by contesting as an Independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, defeating Kulbir Singh Zira of Congress. Amritpal was granted parole for four days to take oath as MP.
