Another Cough Syrup Racket Busted, 5 Arrested In Odisha’s Balangir

Balangir: Police have busted another illegal cough syrup racket and arrested 5 persons in Odisha’s Balangir district.

According to sources, police conducted raid on the house of Anil Nial in Pacher village under Khaparakhol police station in Patnagarh sub-division of the district on Friday morning. The police seized 17 bottles of cough syrup and some strips of intoxicating tablets from the house.

Acting on the information provided by arrested Nial about smuggling of cough syrup, the police carried out raid on a place near Gurjibhata bridge under Khaparakhol police station in the afternoon, Patnagarh SDPO Jyotirmay Bhukta told the media persons.

During the raid on this place, 101 bottles of cough syrup, 4 mobile phones and 2 motorcycles were seized by the police. Four persons carrying the cough syrup bottles were also arrested from the spot and later, forwarded to the court.

The police have launched further investigation as the mastermind of the racket, Trinath Rana of Darho village under Turekela police limits managed to escape during the raid. A manhunt has also been launched to trace him, said the SDPO.

It may be noted that the police had arrested five persons and seized 1120 bottles of cough syrup in the district in March.
