Another criminal injured in exchange of fire with police in Berhampur

Berhampur: In yet another police encounter, a hardcore criminal was shot at in Berhampur on Wednesday.

He was identified as Keshab Kundu alias Thesa Kalia.

According to police sources, Keshab opened fire on the cops when the latter tried to stop him and two of his associates near Om Sai Hostel on the National Highway. Police retaliated hitting him in his left leg. His associates, however, managed to flee. Keshab was later admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

A sub-inspector, Diptiranjan Pradhan, was also injured in the exchange of fire.

Keshab is the prime accused in the recent Kuresh Gaud murder case. As many as 15 criminal cases, including murder and dacoity, are pending against him at different police stations.

On Tuesday night, another criminal, Ananta Behera, was injured in a similar encounter at Chari Chhak of Gopa in Puri district.
