New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has claimed to have cracked a crime, eerily similar to the killing of Shraddha Walkar, in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area with the arrest of a woman and her son.

The accused woman Poonam along with her son Deepak was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing her husband Anjan Das at Trilokpuri residence.

According to police, Poonam hatched the murder plan with Deepak, her son from a previous marriage, after Das sold her jewellery and sent the money to his first wife. She also accused him of having an illicit affair. The murder is said to have taken place on May 30.

They spiked his drink, slit his throat and left the body in the home for a day for the blood to drain out completely. They then allegedly cut the body parts into 10 pieces and stored those in the refrigerator before disposing of the pieces across several east Delhi neighbourhoods. They told neighbours that Das had just left home without informing anyone.

The CCTV footage accessed by the Delhi police showed the mother-son duo walking with a bag late at night and then throwing it at a nearby ground. Police have so far found six pieces, but the torso is still missing.

“Poonam married Anjan Das in 2017 after her husband Kallu passed away in 2016. Kallu was Deepak’s father. Poonam was not aware that Anjan was married in Bihar too and had eight children there. He wasn’t earning and often use to fight,” DCP Crime Amit Goel told mediapersons.

Police began an investigation into the case after finding the first piece of the body in June.

Goel said that some body parts were recovered from Ramlila Maidan in east Delhi on June 5. “Over the next three days, two legs, two thighs, a skull and a forearm were recovered, and a case was filed. Efforts were then made to identify the body. CCTVs were checked again and again. Door-to-door verification was also conducted. During the exercise, the team found out about a man named Anjan Das, who had been missing for the last five-six months but no complaint was filed by the family. This created suspicion and Poonam and her son Deepak were picked up. They confessed to his murder upon questioning. We also found footage of them walking towards different areas after the incident,” he added.

This shocker came amid an investigation into the sensational murder case of Shradda Walkar who was allegedly killed by his live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in May and her body was chopped into 35 parts. He stored the chopped parts in a refrigerator and gradually disposed them of in the forested areas of South Delhi and Gurgaon.
