Bhubaneswar: Another floating bridge vessel with over 50 passengers got stuck in Odisha’s Chilika lake on Friday.
According to sources, the vessel carrying the passengers, 4 cars and 20 two-wheelers left Janhikuda under Krushnaprasad block of Puri district for Satapada in the afternoon. While the vessel was around 700 metre from Satapada, it slipped from the channel and got stuck.
After coming to know about the stuck vessel, local fishermen rescued 30 passengers to safety in their country boats. But they stopped the rescue operation as it turned dark in the evening.
The sources in Chilika Development Authority (CDA) said another vessel with JCB machine and excavator has left Satapada to rescue the rest passengers and toe the trapped vessel back to the channel.
This is not for the first time that a vessel has got stuck in the lake. Similar incidents took place in January and February this year also. On May 30, over 30 people had a close shave after their boat developed snag in Chilika.
