Bhubaneswar: After a deep depression barrelled through Odisha triggering heavy downpour, a fresh low pressure is likely to form over the region, meteorological scientists said on Wednesday.

A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over West Bengal region on Thursday, which may take the shape of a low pressure area around September 13, they said.

The system is likely to further intensify into a depression in the subsequent 24 to 48 hours. Under its influence, heavy rain is likely to pound several districts in Odisha, including Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh between September 13 and 15. Some other districts like Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Deogarh and Jharsuguda may also experience heavy rain.

Meanwhile, a well-marked low pressure area persisted over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood. “The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid tropospheric level. It is likely to intensify into a depression over the same region during next 12 hours,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its morning bulletin.

Besides mentioning about the well-marked low pressure over Madhyapradesh adjoining Uttar Pradesh, IMD scientist Umashankar Das also tweeted about another circulation over Myanmar.

There has been a decrease in the intensity of rains in Odisha with the system losing steam.

The weather agency has warned of thunderstorm with lighting in Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar on Wednesday.

On September 12, isolated heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning may resume in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts.

Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/lightning may occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh on September 13. Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

On September 14, heavy rainfall may continue at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
