Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Centre (IMD) on Monday said that another low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal on September 6.
A release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said the monsoon is active in Odisha due to formation of a trough stretching from south-east to north-east to the North Bay of Bengal through Varanasi and Patna and a cyclonic circulation formed over North Odisha and neighbourhood which now lies over north-east Jharkhand and neighbourhood extending up to 4.5 km above the mean sea level. Under its influence, there has been widespread rainfall in the north, coastal and southern districts of the state.
There will be more rainfall in the southern Odisha till next 24 hours after which the intensity will be less for the next 48 hours till September 5, the release further said.
However, the rainfall is most likely to increase after September 5 since there is a possibility of formation of a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around September 6, the release added.
The IMD has also issued thunderstorm lightning alert for the 10 districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput and Malkangiri district and advised the people to remain indoors till 10 pm on Monday.
