Boudh: A minor girl was allegedly gangraped by two youths in Sadar area of Boudh district on Sunday evening.
According to available information, the incident took place when the 16-year-old girl had gone to market to purchase grocery items.
Two youths picked the girl up midway, took her to a secluded place and then raped her.
Receiving a complaint from the victim’s family members regarding the matter, police swung into action and managed to nab the duo.
A similar case was reported the same day in Kendrapara district, where a youth was arrested for allegedly raping a girl inside the hostel of Sarangad High School.
He was identified as Achyutananda Sahoo, a resident of Puruna Sahi in Sarangad village.
On June 12, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted at Anantpur village in Balasore district. The girl had gone to attend a wedding ceremony when the incident occurred.
The accused, Manindra Mallick of Purosottampur village of the district, was later arrested on basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s family members at Soro police station.
In another such heinous crime, a 48-year-old man was arrested the same day for allegedly raping a mentally and physically disabled minor girl in Nayagarh district, about four months back. The incident came to light after the 16-year-old girl was rushed her to a nearby hospital on June 10 after she complained of feeling unwell. After medical check-up, the doctors came to know that she was pregnant.
