Mumbai: Bollywood celebrity Anushka Sharma and rising star Kartik Aaryan have taken to their social media accounts to condemn China’s popular Yulin festival in which dogs are slaughtered.
Aaryan shared a photo with his two dogs and captioned it: “Har saal Dil Todte hain yeh Yulin Festival waale #StopYulin #YulinKMKB.”
Anushka, who is a known animal lover, shared a news article related to the Dog Meat Festival of China on her Insta Story.
Along with the story, she posted: “What will it take for them to learn? There is a dog at Anushka’s house too.”
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the controversial Yulin Festival kicked off in China on June 21.
During the 10-day festival, thousands of dogs are paraded in wooden crates and metal cages. They are then slaughtered and cooked for consumption.
The Yulin festival, or the dog meat festival, is observed in Yulin city, in Shaanxi province, every year.
Animal lovers across the world have been demanding a ban on this festival.
