New Delhi: Valentine’s Day won’t have competition from Cow Hug Day anymore.
The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) on Friday withdrew its appeal urging cow lovers to celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day.
“As directed by the Competent Authority and Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying the appeal issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India for the celebration of Cow Hug Day on 14th February, 2023 stands withdrawn,” AWBI stated in a fresh notice.
In its earlier notice, AWBI urged cow lovers to hug cows on February 14 as it will bring “emotional richness” and will increase “individual and collective happiness”.
Union minister Giriraj Singh had backed the call.
“It is a good initiative. We should love cows. I am happy that this mission has been started,” the Rural Development minister had said.
BJP’s Kerala unit chief K Surendran had quipped that cows are more useful than the Left Front-headed state government of the state.
