Mumbai: Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Armab Goswami, who was arrested in an abetment to suicide case on Wednesday, spent his first night in custody at an Alibaug school that is being used as a temporary prison.
Arnab will be forwarded to Alibaug jail after completing a 14-day quarantine period as a precaution against COVID-19, The Times of India reported.
The Maharashtra prison authorities have started more than 30 temporary jails, including at government rest houses, schools and colleges, to lodge prisoners for 14 days after their arrest. They are sent to regular jails following a medical check-up at the end of the quarantine period.
“This is helping us to check the spread of coronavirus in jails,” a prison official said.
