Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at Sports Emporium, a sports equipment store, near Jayadev Vihar here late on Wednesday, gutting articles worth over Rs 6 crore.
According to reports, locals spotted smoke billowing from the first floor of the four-storey building around 11 pm. It gradually spread to the other three floors.
Nine fire tender units were rushed to the spot and it took them almost four hours to douse the flames.
While sports items on the first floor were reduced to ashes, the fitness equipment in the upper floor were also affected by the blaze.
Though the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that a short circuit might have led to the mishap.
