Cuttack: Two days after an accused in a bomb attack escaped from police custody in Odisha’s Cuttack district, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a constable were suspended in connection with the incident on Monday.
According to sources, ASI Ranjan Sahu and constable Khirod Behera were placed under suspension with immediate effect for negligence and dereliction of duty.
The action was taken against the two following a probe into the escape incident that took place on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Biranchi Mantri from the district, was arrested and brought to Athagarh police station late Friday night. He was allegedly involved in a case of a bomb attack that took place at Amrutamanohipatana village on August 9.
Biranchi was absconding following the incident. Acting on a tip-off, the police had nabbed him from the village. He was detained in Athagarh police station for interrogation. Two policemen were deployed to guard him in the police station. But he managed to escape.
