Bhubaneswar: Continuing their excellent form in Asian Champions Trophy Hockey 2024, India beat arch-rival Pakistan 2-1 in a thrilling match at Hulunbuir in China.
The match saw both teams picking up pace as Pakistan took an early lead with Nadeem Ahmed scoring a goal against India in the eighth minute. India continued to keep pressure on Pakistan with repeated approached to opposition’s goal post until skipper Harmanpreet Singh levelled the score with a penalty corner in the 13th minute.
India continued to keep the pressure and their second goal again came off a penalty corner in the 19th minute as the skipper flicked it just past the Pakistan goalkeeper. India held on to the lead till the final whistle was blown.
It was India’s fifth consecutive win in the six-team round-robin competition. Both India and Pakistan had already qualified for the semifianls scheduled on September 16, while the final will be played on September 17.
In the last Asian Champions Trophy played at Chennai, India had trounced Pakistan 4-0.
