Dhenkanal: An assistant engineer was arrested on Monday for taking a bribe of Rs 16,000 through a middleman to pass a contractor’s bills.
A team of anti-graft vigilance sleuths from Cuttack and Dhenkanal laid a trap for Bipin Dash and caught the engineer red-handed while he was accepting the money from Shaktiprasad Mohanty, a middleman set up by contractor Jagamohan Panda.
Dash, an employee of Rural Development department in Dhenkanal district, had allegedly asked for the money to clear the contractor’s bill for installing LED bulbs in rural areas of the district.
This was the second time Dash was held for a similar case. At that time, he was employed as junior engineer at Dhenkanal Sadar block.
