Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended an Assistant Engineer of Jatni block in Khurda district, Nibedita Mohanty, while allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 bribe at her residence at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar.
According to a Vigilance release, she had demanded the illegal gratification from a contractor to clear pending bills of a government construction under Jatni block.
The entire bribe money was recovered from Mohanty and seized.
Simultaneous searches are on at two places linked to her to ascertain whether she has accumulated assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
A case has also been registered against her at Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, the release added.
