New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced the fifth and final tranche of the Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package to offset the coronavirus effect on the economy.
The minister announced the release of Rs 15,000 crore as support to healthcare besides ensuring an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakhs per person.
“Telemedicine also came into play, capacity building exercises have been taken up, for protection of health care workers, amendment of Epidemic Diseases Act was required which was undertaken,” the minister said.
The minister also said that it is important for every district to have health labs to fight any severe disease. “The government will develop diagnostic labs and testing labs both with public and private support,” she added.
