Cuttack: Police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly beating his mother-in-law to death with a cricket stump at Gurkha Colony in Cuttack on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Salge Hembram, who stayed with her daughter Sita and son-in-law Sanjay Soren in a shanty. On Sunday, Sita and Sanjay had a quarrel when he demanded money to buy liquor. When Salge intervened, Sanjay picked up a cricket stump and hit her on the head, killing her on the spot.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot and arrested Sanjay. They sent the body for post-mortem to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
