New Delhi: Experts have warned that lifestyle and food habits are the major factors behind the sudden surge in cancer cases across the world.
According to a report in India.com, packaged and adulterated food leads to imbalances in the body and causes major health problems.
Here are some food items that can cause cancer in the long run:
Potato chips: Potato chips are rich in saturated fats and preservatives. They also contain acrylamide, which can cause cancer in the long run.
White flour: Processed grains or refined white flour get its white colour by blasting chlorine gas. They can cause cancer in the long run. It also has a glycemic index which can increase blood sugar levels.
Vegetable oil: It is extracted by a chemical process that is not good for health. It can lead to serious health problems if consumed regularly.
Red meat: Excess consumption of red meat including beef, lamb and pork can lead to pancreatic cancer, colon cancer or colorectal cancer. According to the Cancer Council, a person should consume one serving of lean red meat per day or 2 servings 3-4 times per week in order to reduce the risk of cancer.
Low-fat products: Products which are labelled as ‘low-fat’ contain chemicals and additives. The artificial sweetener ‘aspartame’ added to these products can cause cancer.
Cancer is the second leading cause of deaths in the world.
According to the World Health Organisation, around 9.6 million people died of cancer in 2018.
By developing a healthy lifestyle and avoiding adulterated food items, one can lower the risk of contracting cancer.
